Mission


The mission of the PEHSU program is to:

  • Reduce environmental health threats to children,
  • Improve access to expertise in pediatric environmental medicine, and,
  • Strengthen public health prevention capacity.

The primary means of accomplishing this mission include education, consultation, referral, advocacy, research, and networking.

Goals and objectives

  • Provide pediatric environmental health consultation through a toll-free telephone line
  • Participate in multidisciplinary research studies, publish case studies, and report sentinel events to the appropriate agencies
  • Advocate for environmental health policies that protect children and provide objective information to the media on controversial issues
  • Network with government agencies and other professional organizations to promote children’s environmental health
  • Deliver educational presentations and other materials to a wide variety of audiences
